On This Day - 24th March

At one time The Ringing World had a feature called On This Day where notable events from the past were listed.

Unfortunately, the events weren't related to ringing. This web page is a ringing version of On This Day.

1911This is the date on the first issue of The Ringing World, founded by John Sparkes Goldsmith. He started it because of the unrest about the existing ringers' paper, The Bell News. He died a few days before the Ringing World appeared.nv
1913A band in Kent rang four peals in a day, the first time this had been done. Each of the four peals was in seven Minor methods.nv
1916The Ringing World of this date included an article by H W Fright giving his system for abbreviating methods. This was one of the forerunners of place notation.nv
