1728	The new ring of twelve bells, cast by Richard Phelps for St. Michael's Cornhill, was opened. The manuscript account of this in the copy peal book of the College Youths refers to it as “the same evening that Prince Frederick came to England.”	nv
1756	The local band at Kenninghall, Norfolk rang a peal of 5040 Plain Bob Major.	nv
1773	A mixed company of ringers from Oxford, Cambridge and locals rang a peal at Saffron Waldron. As the bells came round one of the ropes broke. What was extraordinary about this was that they had attempted the peal twice the previous day, on the first occasion the same rope broke after two thousand changes, and on the second attempt it broke after three thousand changes!	nv
1803	The Ancient Society of College Youths rang at St. Mary Abbot's, Kensington a peal of 5040 Stedman Triples. Thomas Edwards had composed this, and this is the first composition in the method that is known to be true.	nv
1919	The first peal by a band of Freemasons was one of Grandsire Caters at St. Clement Danes, London.	nv
1923	A band at Hazel Grove, Norbury, Cheshire, rang the first peal in 35 Treble Bob Minor methods, conducted by James Fernley, Senior. The Ringing World noted: “they have added yet further to their laurels, by ringing a peal in which no fewer than 35 methods have been linked up in seven true extents. 1937	Almost a year after their previous record of 70 methods, the Algarkirk ringers extended this to 80 in their contest with the Cheshire ringers to ring the greatest number of Minor methods to a peal. Once again, Vernon Taylor was the conductor. See June 12, 1937 and July 16, 1938.	nv
1954	On this day was the first modern attempt to ring the complete extent of Major. W E Critchley organised a band to ring it at the Loughborough Bell Foundry amidst a blaze of publicity from the National Press. After nine hours ringing one of the band complained he was feeling unwell, and in the anxiety of the moment, the conductor missed a bob. Several other members of the band put the bob in, but the conductor stood the bells. See January 24, 1958.	nv
1982	John Pladdys rang his 1000th peal with one of Stedman Triples at Drayton, Berkshire. Like the Revd. F E Robinson, who also rang his 1000th peal here, he too had rung more peals of Stedman than any other method. (See August 9, 1910). Two other ringers achieved personal milestones on this day. With a peal at Badingham, Suffolk, J Martin Thorley completed peals on 1000 different bells, and Ian North rang his 1000th peal on tower bells with one of four Spliced Surprise Major at Birstall, Yorkshire.	nv
