1914	Samuel Wood conducted what is still the record length of Kent Treble Bob Royal at Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancs. The peal was 14,000 changes in length, and took 9 hours and 24 minutes to ring. The peal was credited both to the Yorkshire and Lancashire Associations. Another record was being set up elsewhere in the country on the same day. William Pye conducted four peals of Surprise Major in four different towers on the same day for the first time. They managed to ring them in three different counties as well, Berkshire, Surrey and Middlesex!	nv
1953	A bell was cast at the McShane Bell Foundry, Baltimore, USA specially commissioned by the National Mental Health Association of America. In the 1950s this association had campaigned against the shackling of the mentally ill, and this bell was to crown the success of their work. It was claimed that it was cast out of shackles, but actually only one as thrown into the molten bronze to make the 300 pound bell.	nv
