1912	Members of the Winchester Diocesan Guild rang, in the belfry of Holy Trinity, Guildford, a handbell peal of 19,738 Stedman Caters in 9 hours and 32 minutes. The peal, composed by Gabriel Lindoff and conducted by Alfred H Pulling, was the greatest number of changes ever rung by one set of ringers. They intended to go for 22,222 changes, but brought it round at the shorter length due to the lateness of the hour. See June 1 and August 5, 1912. This was only the fifth peal to exceed ten thousand changes to be rung in hand.	BN1912/155
1918	Bertram Prewitt was killed in action in France, aged 39. A conductor and handbell ringer of outstanding skill, he was one of the band formed by William Pye, and rang in many of his famous peals, including the 18,027 Stedman Caters at Loughborough. (See April 12, 1909.) During his relatively short ringing life he achieved nearly a thousand peals, an extraordinary number at that time. See October 12, 1878.	nv
