1742	The Eastern Scholars rang 10,080 Plain Bob Major at Mortlake, Surrey in 5 hours and 55 minutes, conducted by John Sharpe.	nv
1767	10,080 Plain Bob Major at Debenham, Suffolk. The peal was conducted by James Wilson, who is reputed to have committed a murder only a few hours before, but was not charged as it was thought he had insufficient time to get from the scene of the crime to the peal. The record of the peal concludes: "This peal was excellently completed in six hours and one minute, a performance never before accomplished by eight men without assistance to ye great bells."	nv

1862	Francis E Dawe was born at East Meon, Hants. He became one of the leading ringers in the latter part of the nineteenth century. He was six times Master of the Ancient Society of College Youths, and was the first secretary of the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers, a post he only held for one year as it demanded more time than he was able to give. Although he rang only 142 peals, he claimed to have rung peals in more cathedrals than any other man. Died December 18 1942.	nv
