1872	John H Cheeseman was born at Stowting, Folkstone and learnt to ring on the five bells there. Moved to North Kent in his late teens and joined the very active peal band at Crayford. About 1894 he immigrated to New Zealand, but felt the lack of ringing there so much he returned four years later to Erith and joined William Pye's peal band. Took part in many of the long lengths at that time. He was an excellent conductor - especially in Stedman - and a quiet, unassuming man with sterling qualities that made him many friends. He was the thirteenth ringer to achieve one thousand peals on December 17 1935.	RW1939/755
