1844	Charles H. Hattersley was born at Sheffield. His grandfather was William Booth, a leading ringer in the early years of the century. A manufacturer of silver-plated goods, C. H. Hattersley travelled the country a good deal and became well known to many ringers. He rang approximately 200 peals, including several long lengths. He was an astute composer, competent in most methods, but excellent in Treble Bob.	nv
1856	Charles C. D. P Davies was born at Tewkesbury. He was one of the first men to investigate the art of composition on a scientific basis: his work can be seen in the Snowdon series in the books on Grandsire; Stedman; and Surprise Methods.	nv
