1793	The local company rang 15,360 changes of Plain Bob Major at Aston in 9 hours and 31 minutes, Joshua Short conducting it from the tenor. He is reputed to have turned to William Hassell on the seventh after 15,000 changes had been rung and asked him if he was game to try for a 20,000! 1878	A board in South Shields records the first peal by the Durham Association of Ringers in this way: TYNEMOUTH PARISH CHURCH On Tuesday evening the 1st day of October 1878 seven members of the Tynemouth Parish Church ringers and Mr G Overton of St John's, Darlington, members of the Durham Association of Ringers succeeded in ringing on these bells a true peal of 5040 changes of Grandsire Triples in 2 hours and 58 minutes.
