1851	Isaac G Shade born. He was a regular member of William Pye's peal band in the early years of the twentieth century, and became the third person to ring one thousand peals. He died July 19, 1926 after being knocked down by a car. See April 26, 1913.	RW1926/470
1861	A record length of Stedman Cinques was rung at St Michael, Cornhill by the Ancient Society of College Youths. The peal of 8,580 changes was composed and conducted by Henry W Haley, and took 6 hours and 41 minutes. It remained the record length in the method for twenty years. See February 16, 1858 and February 28, 1881.	nv
1868	15,840 Kent Treble Bob Major was rung at St Matthew, Bethnal Green in 9 hours and 12 minutes by the Ancient Society of College Youths. This peal, the longest yet rung in any method, was composed by Thomas Day and conducted by Henry W Haley from the treble. It remained the record length for the next fifteen years. See May 18, 1883. 1876	George Newson conducted 8,896 changes of Kent Treble Bob Major for the Cumberland Youths. This number of changes is the longest length that can be produced using bobs only and keeping the tenors together. Newson only received William Harrison's composition the day before the peal, and he persuaded the whole band to take the day off for the attempt!	nv
1916	On this day the bells themselves signalled a fire in the belfry at St Mary-le-Tower, Ipswich. The verger dropped a smouldering match into the sawdust on the bell chamber floor when visiting the top of the tower. It burst into flames in the early hours of the morning, and on burning through the stay of the eighth, let the bell down, so raising the alarm and saving the bells.	nv
