1820	A peal of 6,030 Grandsire Caters at Wakefield, Yorkshire, composed and conducted by W Woodhead, was recorded on a board in the belfry “by order of the churchwardens, in consequence of the attention and good conduct of the ringers.”	Peal board
1834	Fire succeeded where Guy Fawkes had failed in burning down the Palace of Westminster, the seat of the British Government. Westminster Hall, built between 1097 and 1099, survived, and was incorporated into the new Palace of Westminster designed by Charles Barry. Parliament decided in 1844 that a tower and clock should be included in the Palace, and thus Big Ben was born!	nv

1883	Four members of the Birmingham Amalgamated Society rang 10,176 Grandsire Major on handbells at the Hope and Anchor, Birmingham. The peal, which was witnessed by nine other ringers, was composed and conducted by John Carter and took 4 hours and 55 minutes. It was the first peal of over ten thousand changes to be rung on handbells, and remained the longest on them till April 26, 1894, (q.v.) when 11,200 Bob Major was rung at Norwich.	BN1883/343
1893	The new ring of eight installed in the new church at Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, were dedicated, the ringing being opened by the St. Peter-at-Arches Society, Lincoln.	nv
