1760	William Shipway was born in Bath. A cabinet maker, he soon learned to ring Treble Bob Royal, which was all the local band were capable of ringing, so he left for London, arriving on July 29, 1785 (q.v.) He died in 1842 aged 82.	RW1940/466
1788	A district band rang a 10,080 of Plain Bob Major at Aston, Birmingham in 6 hours and 23 minutes.	nv
1792	Four years after their previous performance, another ten thousand of Plain Bob Major was rung at Aston, Birmingham. On this occasion they rang 10,192 changes in 6 hours and 26 minutes.	nv
1801	The Parish Registers of Surfleet, Lincs record the marriage of W Bird, widower and Ann Rose, spinster. A tradition that was current in 1880 says that on this occasion the wedding peal was rung by a band of females. If true, this would be the earliest example of a ladies band!	CBLi694
1896	The eight bells of St Paul's, Bedford, were given a recast treble and tenor and then augmented with two new trebles to make a ring of ten. The original scheme was to have a brand new ring with a tenor of about 34 cwt, but insufficient money was raised. The church was packed for the dedication on this Tuesday; the Revd F E Robinson preaching the sermon.	nv
