1750	The College Youths rang at St George the Martyr, Southwark, a peal of “Bob Major St George being the first that was done and in 3 hours and 10 minutes it was performed”.	CY60
1814	A peal of 12,320 Treble Bob Major at Otley, Yorks in 7 hours and 15 minutes. The composition, by William Shipway, was the longest produced at that time. Two men rang the tenor, and the conductor sat out and called the peal from his manuscript.	nv
1883	The Worcestershire and Districts Association was reformed after sixteen months of teething troubles. See April 10, 1882.	nv
1912	Matthew A Wood died, aged 85. A contemporary of William Cooter, John Cox, Henry Haley and James Pettit, he was one of the great ringers of the nineteenth century. Of Huguenot stock, he was a third generation ringer, joining the Cumberland Youths at the age of ten! Later joined the Ancient Society of College Youths. His total of 380 peals included all the notable peals and record lengths in London in the mid nineteenth century, both on tower and handbells. A skilful ringer, first class heavy-bell handler and good striker, he would not tolerate bad or slovenly ringing. Was steeple keeper at Bethnal Green for 72 years.	nv
