1822	Thackrah's Art of Ringing quotes: “Seven of St Peter's Company, Huddersfield, and myself, rang at their parish church, on 13th February, 1822, 6,720 changes of Cambridge Surprise with the tenors together, in three hours, fifty-one minutes. I composed and conducted the peal, and introduced singles when the treble was dodging in 3-4 to take away the false changes when liable.” This was the fourth peal rung in the method and, although the earlier peals were all false, this was considered not to be “proper” Cambridge Surprise Major and disregarded.
